32 Annual Golf Outing ANNUAL GOLF OUTING, COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS, OUTREACH FUNDRAISER For 15 years, SIM Boston has held an annual golf outing to raise funds to help us support our Community Partnerships and Outreach Program. Two years ago we renamed our annual golf outing in tribute to the passing of longtime SIM Boston and SIM International member, Michael Brooks. The 2016 Michael P. Brooks Golf Outing, held on June 15, 2016, was a very successful event. The business world has clearly changed with virtual conferences, extensive use of webinars, Web meetings, Skype and social media, and deep cutbacks in travel. Our increasing use of these forms of impersonal communication has lessened our opportunities for networking and relationship building. The annual SIM Boston Golf Outing provides participants with the much needed opportunity to spend a full day with IT Colleagues, prospects, thought leaders, and partners. Networking and relationship building are the overriding goals of the day – golf is merely the conduit, or should we say the infrastructure? SIM Boston affords a unique value: • Access to over 400 IT professionals in the Boston area • Charitable donations to SIM Boston outreach partners who are involved in youth and the IT profession • The most extensive and expansive set of programs of any of the more than 35 SIM Chapters with roundtables, professional development programs, panels and executive forums. • Monthly meetings that typically attract 70-100+ people Our golf venue was once again at the Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston, MA. The day began at 9:00 AM and concluded in the early evening after a day full of events, contests, networking, lunch, cocktail reception and dinner. For the fourth year in a row, participants were given the option to either play in the 18-hole golf outing or attend the SIM Boston Golf School and receive a one-hour lesson from a PGA SIM BOSTON • www.simboston.org “I went from a non-golfer to an amused and challenged golfer on this beautiful day at Cyprian Keyes’ par three 9-hole course! After patient instruction, and about 50 balls at the driving range, I was able to truly enjoy the whole experience, including driving a golf cart and patching the green at the tees! (And losing balls, and forgetting golf tees!) It was a great experience, and a respite from the daily grind at work!” Sara Morgan President SIM Boston, 2014 & Trustee VP, Program Management, Curriculum Associates professional before playing nine holes of golf on the par 3, Executive Golf Course. The 9-hole and 18-hole outings ended at the same time so the players were able to enjoy the cocktail/networking reception, followed by dinner, an awards ceremony and the raffling of donated prizes. We encourage all SIM Boston Members to participate in our annual golf outing, even those who may not be avid golfers! With a Golf Outing Committee of 10 and a group of 15 logistics volunteers on the day of the event, the SIM Boston Board and members worked very hard to maximize your investment of time and to maximize the Chapter’s annual support for our outreach partners. Since our first outing in 2002, we have conservatively donated well over $600,000 to our outreach partners. Come and enjoy what many characterize as the “SIM Boston Event of the Year”. Who knows – one year we may have a hole-in-one winner to report, but something we can guarantee is that you will make a connection that will help your career and/or the IT Professional.
