Dear Boston SIM Colleagues:

As we close 2012, we want to thank you all for your continued support and wish you a prosperous and Happy New Year.

During 2012 Boston SIM continued to grow and maintain its status as the largest and most active of the many SIM Chapters in North America. There are just too many people to thank for this, from the various Roundtable Co-Chairs to the entire Board of Directors and the volunteers who make what we do possible, and our sponsors. Without a doubt we need to thank Kate and Nan for helping to keep us organized and on track.

2013 will be another big year for us. Taking over the gavel as President is Tom Catalini and a heartbeat away will be his very capable VP Sara Morgan. Both have served on the Board of Directors in various roles over the past several years and we are confident that they will bring a new management style that will keep Boston in its proper role as “The Best SIM Chapter”.

2013 will focus the attention of the national IT community on Boston in November as we take on the challenge of SIMposium 2013. Joining me as Co-Chair for the event is Kevin More, our 2011 President. Kevin and I, along with your Board of Directors, the SIMposium leadership team and their committees are committed to making this SIMposium the biggest and best in the 45 year history of the conference. We need your help for that – first, get registered, second, if you have any time available, come help, third, if you are a CIO, please accept the invitation to join the National CIO Advisory Council.
Again, thank you for your continued membership and support. Have a Happy New Year!

Very truly,

Michael P. Brooks, Sr.

President (2012)

The 20th century witnessed a fierce and lengthy battle between opposing views of how to organize and regulate economic activity. Although free market capitalism won that epic struggle decisively, it failed to capture the minds of intellectuals and the hearts of citizens. Corporations are the most influential institutions in the world today but are widely distrusted, seen as greedy, selfish, exploitative and uncaring.

Modern free market capitalism has delivered widespread prosperity, life altering technologies and numerous other benefits over the past two centuries. But it has also consumed huge and irreplaceable chunks of our planet’s resources, created working conditions that are for many people stressful and unfulfilling, and fostered and fed unhealthy appetites and addictions for billions of customers.

It does not have to be that way. This talk describes an emerging paradigm for business that simultaneously delivers multiple kinds of value and well-being for all stakeholders (including society): financial, intellectual, physical, ecological, social, cultural, emotional and even spiritual. We refer to this new “operating system” for business as “Conscious Capitalism.” It has four essential elements: Higher Purpose, Stakeholder Integration, Conscious Leadership andConscious Cultures.

Dr. Sisodia has a Ph. D. in Marketing from Columbia University. In 2003, Dr. Sisodia was cited as one of the world’s “50 Leading Marketing Thinkers” by the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Bentley University honored him with the Award for Excellence in Scholarship in 2007 and the Innovation in Teaching Award in 2008. He was named one of “Ten Outstanding Trailblazers of 2010″ by Good Business International, and one of the “Top 100 Thought Leaders in Trustworthy Business Behavior” by Trust Across America for 2010 and 2011. His forthcoming book Conscious Capitalism: Liberating the Heroic Spirit of Business(with John P. Mackey) will be published by Harvard Business Review Press in 2012. Dr. Sisodia’s book The Rule of Three: How Competition Shapes Markets was a finalist for the 2004 Best Marketing Book Award from the American Marketing Association. His book Firms of Endearment: How World Class Companies Profit from Passion and Purpose was named one of the best business books of 2007 by several organizations, including Amazon.com. Dr. Sisodia has published over 100 academic articles, and his work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Fortune, Financial Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, and numerous other publications, radio shows and television networks such as NPR, CNN, CNBC and Fox. He has consulted and taught executive programs for numerous companies, including AT&T, Nokia, Boston Private Bank, Ericsson, Siemens, Sprint, MCI, Volvo, Nortel, IBM, Price Waterhouse, KPMG, Ernst & Young, Tata, and Southern California Edison.
